Congressman Ben Cline from Virginia’s Sixth District expressed his approval following the House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 1, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The bill, which is a significant budget reconciliation package, aims to benefit working families, small businesses, and taxpayers within the district.
“Today’s passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill is a big win for the American people and for families across Virginia’s Sixth District,” stated Rep. Cline. “While the bill isn’t perfect, it delivers on the core promises House Republicans made—to secure our border, unleash American energy, rein in Washington’s reckless spending, and stop the largest tax hike in our Nation’s history.”
The legislation introduces various reforms aimed at providing relief to Americans. Key provisions include eliminating taxes on tips, overtime pay, and car loan interest; offering additional tax relief for seniors; maintaining Social Security and Medicare without changes; enhancing Medicaid by reducing fraud; and ensuring funding for national defense.
Additionally, Congressman Cline successfully included one of his legislative priorities—the Hearing Protection Act—within this bill. This act proposes removing suppressors from regulations under the National Firearms Act of 1934.
“I’m proud that this legislation includes portions of the Hearing Protection Act,” Cline added. “This is a long-overdue win for law-abiding gun owners and a key step in defending our Second Amendment rights.”
Cline emphasized potential negative impacts if this bill had not passed: “The average taxpayer would face a 26% tax hike,” along with other financial challenges affecting families and small businesses due to expiring Trump tax cuts.
The bill now advances to the Senate for further deliberation. Congressman Cline urged quick action: “I hope my colleagues in the Senate will move quickly so we can send this important bill to President Trump’s desk and continue delivering real results for the American people.”
