Shenandoah University issued the following announcement on Oct. 20
Shenandoah University is offering current undergraduate, incoming, and visiting students the chance to earn additional undergraduate credits this winter by taking a January term (J Term) course.
The J Term runs from Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, to Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, (no classes will be held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is a day of remembrance and service at the university). The J Term will offer 14 face-to-face/hybrid courses with a significant experiential component, along with 16 online (synchronous and asynchronous) courses.
J Term Includes Discounted Tuition, Free Room, Discounted Board
One 3-credit class costs $495, or $165 per credit hour. Students are limited to ONE J Term class. No financial aid will be offered for J Term courses. If you have questions about your charge for J Term, please reach out to Hornet Central at hornetcentral@su.edu.
Students deciding to return to campus as they take J Term classes will stay in their current room assignment at no extra charge**, and pay only $180 for their three weeks of board; those on campus can eat at the dining hall for brunch (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and dinner (4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) every day, including weekends.
**Free room is available to any residential student taking a J Term class, regardless of delivery mode (regardless if the class is fully online, face-to-face, hybrid, or blended).
Exciting New Seminars And More!
New this year for the J Term are ShenEd Seminar courses, which delve deeper into themes introduced in the university’s First-Year Seminar (FYS) classes, and are open to all undergraduate students. These courses address a wide range of topics, similar to FYS, covering everything from equity in women’s sports and storytelling to mental health/alternative therapies and mural painting. The seminar courses (which are listed with the prefix SHEN) also satisfy ShenEd requirements (please check the J Term course listing to see which ShenEd spheres are associated with particular courses). Other face-to-face/hybrid courses are in environmental studies, exercise science, public health and business.
English, global studies, kinesiology, media & communication, psychology, Spanish, business and nursing courses are being offered online as well during the J Term. Several of these courses satisfy Shen Ed requirements.
Registration information for J Term:
Current students can begin registering for J Term classes through Hornet Hub when they register for spring classes and may enroll for J Term through Dec. 22. However, online registration closes on Dec. 15. Paper registrations and payments are required after Dec. 15. All forms must be received in Hornet Central, prior to 5 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2021, for processing and to ensure access to coursework in Canvas, on the first day of the term. Shenandoah University is closed Dec. 23, 2021, through Jan. 2, 2022, in observance of the holidays and staff will not be available to process paper registrations during this time.
Incoming Spring 2022 Shenandoah students and visiting students must apply, enroll, and pay by Dec. 15. Registration for incoming and visiting students begins Nov. 17.
