Virginia Military Institute issued the following announcement on Dec. 3
The VMI men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed Friday evening in the first day of the two-day Loyola University Hounds Invitational.
The Keydets recorded 14 college personal records and four lifetime personal records.
Freshman Rachel Greathouse set a new program varsity record of 5:14.57 in the 500 free to finish 11th. Junior London Yerasimides took fourth in a 12-women field in the 3 meter dive with a score of 185.85. Courtney Novotny swam a 2:23.61 in the 200 IM while Kate Taylor completed the 50 free in 26.05. The 400 medley relay team of Ruki Sarkari, Anne Bowles, Isabella DeCosta and Novotny finished in 4:16.57 and the 800 free relay team of Jillian Maher, Sarah Liebenow, Carter Wasser and Greathouse clocked a time of 8:23.95.
Junior Bridger Thurston finished first in the 11-competitor 1 meter men's diving event with a new personal-best score of 232.10. Sam Chopper paced VMI with a 4:52.34 in the 500 free, Ryan Cooper swam the 200 IM in 2:01.12 and Morgan Burd completed the 50 free in 22.68. The 400 medley relay team of Connor Doyle, Tommy Lees, Tyler Blackwell and Dalton Cosner finished in 3:35.23 and the team of Doyle, Cooper, Mike Tulupov and Collin Marks swam the 800 free relay in 7:14.69.
Competition Saturday is set to begin at 10 a.m.
