Men's Wrestling Ties for Sixth at Wilkes

Shenandoah University Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec. 22

The Shenandoah University men's wrestling team had four place-winners Wednesday at the Wilkes University Invitational.

Sophomore Hunter Thompson led this quartet with a third place showing at 174 pounds.

IN BRIEF

First-year Yuri Smaltz was fifth at 165 while David Smith and Thomas Domerese both recorded sixth place showings. Smith wrestled at 149 and Domerese at 184.

Thompson, seeded second, opened with a 14-1 win over Alex Koenig from Ursinus before falling, 6-1, to Wilkes' Chris Nuss in the semi-finals.

Thompson then defeated Adam Myers from Ohio Northern in the consolation semi-finals and Myers' teammate, Connor Kwiat, in the third place match. Thompson shut out Kwiat, 8-0, to earn the third place finish.

TEAM RESULTS

SU finished tied for sixth with Ursinus. The Hornets and Bears both had 53.5 points, two points clear of eighth place Delaware Valley. DI Long Island University won it with 146.5 points.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah is now off for the holiday break and returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 12 in a 7 p.m. dual match at Southern Virginia.
