Following elite performances during the month of April, VMI senior sprinter Jordin Poindexter has been named the Southern Conference Male Track Athlete of the Month, the league announced Friday afternoon.
At the SoCon Outdoor Championships the weekend of April 30-May 1, Poindexter helped his team to a third-place finish in Birmingham, Alabama.
Following the meet, Poindexter was named the league's Male Most Outstanding Track Performer, the second such honor for Poindexter as he earned the same distinction after the 2022 indoor season.
At the SoCon meet, the Richmond, Virginia, native earned first-place individual titles and All-Conference honors in both the 100 meter and 200 meter races. In the 100 meter, he set a new facility record in 10.27 seconds, the second fastest all-time mark for the event in VMI program history. The previous facility record was 10.36 seconds.
In the 200 meter, Poindexter's first-place mark of 20.89 seconds set a new VMI record - beating Mario Small's time of 20.90 seconds from the 1991 outdoor season - for his second All-Conference honor of the day.
To cap the meet, he ran the second leg of the championship 4x400 relay team of Jeremiah Wilks, Poindexter, Richard Edwards and Johnnie Walker and helped the group to a title in 3:11.08 – a new facility record – to edge out Wofford's second-place time of 3:14.54.
He medaled in four events for the second straight year to total 24 points on the weekend. Poindexter also ran legs on both Keydet relays, running the second leg on VMI's 4x400-meter unit that won its second straight title and leading off the 4x100-meter relay, which took third for the second straight year.
Poindexter is the first VMI runner to earn most outstanding track performer honors in consecutive seasons.
He also placed 11th in the 100m at the elite Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, South Carolina, with a time of 10.73 seconds.
