Shenandoah University had six baseball student-athletes earn All-ODAC accolades in selections announced Friday afternoon at the league championship tournament.
Graduate student Pearce Bucher headlines these honorees with his selection as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Bucher, the Hornets first baseman, also was selected third team All-ODAC. Currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Public Health, Bucher is the first SU baseball player and 11th student-athlete overall to earn Scholar-Athlete honors.
Seniors Frankie Ritter and Kyle Lisa were named first team All-ODAC with graduate student Henry Delavergne earning second team honors. Bucher, along with senior Calvin Pastel, and junior Gavin Horning, round out the honorees with third team accolades.
Ritter and Bucher are both repeat selections with both selected first team All-ODAC in 2021.
Ritter, the Hornets starting shortstop and leadoff hitter, is currently hitting .360 with 67 hits in 186 at-bats. He has 13 doubles, two triples and one home run this season and is 20-of-23 in stolen bases. He has hit safely in 35 of the 42 games this season and has 22 multiple-hit contests.
Lisa, the squad's starting second baseman, is hitting .331 through 42 games this season and is second in the league in both home runs, 11, and RBI, 55. Lisa is also 1-0 with a 1.18 ERA in 11 innings pitched over six appearances this spring.
Delavergne, a five-year starter in centerfield, has had his best season in a Hornet uniform with a .320 batting average along with eight home runs and 39 RBI in 172 at-bats. His 17 stolen bases are second on the team and he was named ODAC Player of the Week on two occasions this season.
Pastel has anchored the pitching staff this season with seven wins in as many decisions and also picking up one save in his lone relief appearance this season. The ODAC Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 21, Pastel has a 2.23 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings pitched.
Horning, an outfielder from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, made the most of a starting job earned midway through the season with a .404 average on 40 hits in 99 at-bats. In league play, Horning is hitting a team-best .492 with six doubles and 11 RBI in 61 at-bats.
Bucher leads the league in hits, 69, with his .391 batting average fifth-best in the loop. He has a 3.9 GPA as a graduate student and after earning his Master's in Public Health, moves on to Shenandoah's Doctor of Physical Therapy program next fall.
The six selections brings the baseball program's all-time total to 56 honorees in 10 seasons of league play. Nineteen of those 56 honorees have been to the first team.
