George Mason University women's basketball head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis has announced that Riley Walker will join her staff as director of basketball operations.
Walker joins Mason after spending four years as an assistant coach at Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash.
"We are excited to have Riley a part of our family," said Blair-Lewis. "He embodies the servant leader spirit and a passion for helping to develop our young women both on and off the court. His work ethic and enthusiasm to continue to grow our program is contagious."
Walked helped guide Northwest women's basketball to an overall record of 17-13 in 2021-22, marking its most wins in a single season since 2014.
He also acted as the Assistant Director of Conference and Event Services during his time with the Eagles. In that role, he directed event and conference logistics, including insurance, contracts and invoicing.
"I want to thank Coach Blair-Lewis, her staff, and all the amazing people who support Mason women's basketball for this opportunity," said Walker. "Coach Blair-Lewis sets her athletes up to succeed on the court, in the classroom, and in life. She is not just building a team, but she is building a family, and I am grateful to be a part of it. I am excited to work with this staff and help bring George Mason to the top of the Atlantic 10. Go Patriots!"
Walker returned to his alma mater in 2018 following a two-year stint at Northwestern State University of Louisiana where he served as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball program.
Prior to that, he was a student assistant for Northwest men's basketball for three years before being promoted to an assistant coach in 2015-16.
Walker earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education with a concentration in social studies from Northwest in 2016 and graduated with a master's degree in health and human performance with a concentration in sport administration from the Northwestern State in 2018.
A native of Seattle, Walker and his wife Maika have three daughters: London (6), Camden (4) and Charlotte (1).
