he Shenandoah University women's cross country team is the pre-season No. 9 team in the South Region in rankings released Tuesday afternoon by the organization.
Shenandoah, coming off of a 10th place finish at the 2021 NCAA Regionals, is one of four ODAC teams in the pre-season poll. Defending league champion Lynchburg is the pre-season No. 1 with Washington & Lee at No. 3 and Bridgewater at No. 8.
SU has nine returners off of the '21 squad, including NCAA participant Erin Atkinson. Atkinson, a second team All-ODAC honoree last season as a senior, returns for her final year on the course this fall as a graduate student.
The Hornets open the 2022 season on Sep. 1 in hosting the SU Twilight. That season opening race is one of three that the program hosts this fall at Kernstown Battlefield. On Sep. 24, the team hosts the annual Hornet Harrier before the squad welcomes the rest of the ODAC to Winchester on Oct. 29 for the annual league championships.
