Graduate student Ben Burgan has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week in selections announced Tuesday morning by the website.
Burgan, a 2021 AFCA All-America, led the Hornets to their first shutout since the 2014 season opener with 12 tackles Saturday night in a 45-0 home victory over N.C. Wesleyan.
Playing almost exclusively in the first half, Burgan had 12 stops with seven solo tackles, four sacks, and four tackles for loss. Ten of his 12 tackles, and all four of his sacks, came in the first half as the hosts built a 42-0 lead.
This is the second time that Burgan has earned ToW accolades. The 2021 NCAA Division III tackles leader was picked following week eight last season.
Shenandoah has had 40 men earn Team of the Week honors since 2000.
SU is back in action Saturday in a 1 p.m. non-league contest at Maryville.
