S

Shenandoah University issued the following announcement on June 9.

Student Leadership Development Position Will Oversee Civic Engagement, Career Services, And Student Leadership Development

Ph.D., Shenandoah University’s assistant vice president for opportunity development, is stepping into a newly created role this summer as the university’s first associate vice president for student leadership development. He begins his new duties July 1.

In this position, Dr. Polite will oversee the offices of Civic Engagement, Career Services, and Student Leadership Development.

“It is an honor and privilege to join the Division of Student Affairs under the leadership of Dr. Yolanda B.Gibson,” Polite said. The move will allow the offices under his direction to work together more closely and combine resources as well as support The Shenandoah University Leadership Academy (SULA), which will focus specifically on student leadership development and take the university to the next level in terms of student career preparation and leadership skill development. “This will distinguish our institution while preparing the next generation of Shenandoah University leaders,” Polite said.

Within his new area of responsibility, Polite said he envisions continued expansion of programs like the Leadership and Mentoring Program (LAMP), which he was integral in developing during his years with the university’s business school. “We definitely see LAMP continuing to grow across campus,” he said. “LAMP will be a core aspect of student development. Research has shown that positive mentoring is a key component for developing successful and effective leaders.”
