The Shenandoah University outdoor track & field teams completed their opening meet of the season Saturday with a host of personal bests.
Competing for a second straight day at the Myrtle Beach Challenge, the Hornets battled through cold rain and heavy winds to finish 18th in the men's event and 21st in the women's.
IN BRIEF
Saturday's start to competition was delayed by two hours as extremely poor weather ran thru the Grand Strand area of South Carolina.
First year sprinter, John Lopez, had the highest finish of the day for the Hornets. He was third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.61 seconds.
In the steeplechase, Erin Atkinson, Jeremy Allinger, and Ethan Harrower all placed in the top-8 in their respective events to score for the Hornets.
The two teams had a combined 52 personal bests in the two-day meet.
The men's squad finished the weekend with 20 points and the women recorded 6 points.
Concord won the men's meet with 83 points while Purdue Fort Wayne ran away with the women's results with 128 points.
