Keydets Come up Short at Samford

Looking to pick up a big SoCon road victory against league leader Samford Wednesday night, the VMI basketball team came up a little short as the host Bulldogs prevailed by an 87-78 count at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Keydets (5-11, 0-3) kept pace with the Bulldogs (9-7, 3-0) the entire game and pulled with one point at the 11:06 mark of the second half following a trey by Sean Conway, but VMI could not sustain momentum as Samford pulled away over the final 10 minutes of regulation to earn the win.

Game Summary
*Held scoreless in the opening half, Conway came alive in the second half to score 14 points and finished the night going 5-12 from the field including three treys
*Freshman Asher Woods led the Keydets with 15 points on the night including 4-5 from the charity stripe
*Freshmen Tyler Houser and Rickey Bradley, Jr. also scored in double figures with 14 points a piece
*Both teams scored 24 points in the paint, but the Bulldogs proved dominant with 16 points off turnovers and 15 second-chance points to VMI's nine. Samford also scored 27 points off the bench in the win
*Samford was led by Logan Dye's 19 points while Jermaine Marshall poured in 16. Nathan Johnson logged 13 points and former Keydet Bubba Parham also finished in double figures with 10 points in the contest
