Bonsack Elem. 5th grader wins 2023 Roanoke County Spelling Bee
Phalanges. That was the word that Rory Grant, 5th grade student at Bonsack Elementary School spelled to win the 2023 Roanoke County Spelling Bee. Grant was among 21 students from elementary and middle schools across Roanoke County to compete in the annual spelling bee.
After about ten rounds of competition, the only students left were Grant and Emmanuel Evans from Cave Spring Middle. The two competed for round after round, including three championship words, before Grant finally was named the winner in the 21st round with Evans named as the alternate.
Grant will advance to compete in the regional spelling bee to take place this spring.
