Soccer Displays Great Poise in Opener at Navy

Navy launched one goal in each half to hand The Citadel a 2-nil defeat in both teams' season opener. The Bulldogs displayed great play on the offensive side that was matched by credible Navy defense.

How it Happened

20' – Navy's Sophie Ewing gathered a rebound off a corner kick to push one past Brie Sikes, assisted by Amanda Graziano.

76' – Mimi Abusham took advantage of a misplayed clear attempt to score off a one-on-one opportunity, assisted by Chloe Dawson.

Inside the Box Score

Brie Sikes made her first start in goal since the 2020-21 season, tallying three saves.

Lexy Kendro led the team with four shots. Kendro, Suzuka Yosue, and Karen Majewski each had one shot on goal, each of which was met with stifling defense and the goalkeeping work of Mattie Gallagher.

The Citadel led in shots 12-7 and 9-4 in corner kicks.

Up Next

The Bulldogs open their home season next week with two matches, beginning with UNC Asheville Thursday at 4 P.M. and Gardner Webb Sunday at 2 P.M.
