Among the volunteers were Cheryl Ponce and Chyrel Gregorieff, who have deep military roots in their families. Ponce expressed the significance of participating in this event, saying, "It kind of keeps everybody from my family that's still living with me and has passed in my heart when I lay a wreath on veterans' cemetery graves." Ponce's husband, father, and grandfather are all military veterans, and her son currently serves at Fort Rucker.

The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) extended an invitation to Ponce and Gregorieff to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony at East Hill Cemetery.
